Sir, this is a Wendy’s.

One thing about travel people I know like to say “ if they have one at home, we aren’t eating there on our trip” or something similar. I would argue those people have not traveled far enough. While generally agree with the sentiment of finding unique places and supporting local businesses (also McNuggets are probably very close to the same in Omaha, Ne as they are in say Miami, Fl). Having said that, even in the states there is some regional items or even test markets for new items that if the food is part of the experience of the trip, might be worth looking into. Get on the other side of the planet, the same item will probably even have some taste differences.

Not just limited to this Wendy’s, every familiar restaurant brand overseas has a localized menu that is a departure from your local restaurant. From McDonald’s Bone-in Chicken Wings with Curly Fries in Romania, to the Tsukimi C.B.P. at this Wendy”y in Japan there is a world a difference to try if you get an opportunity. Not for every meal, certainly, but if you want to “eat like a local” enough locals eat at these places for them to be in business. I like to think of it as a small part of the experience that could add a little more perspective, and maybe even act as a little bridge where you can start at what we have in common to where the differences start. That or I just like hamburgers…
