On The Same Corner

One of the fascinating things about exploring i coming across places that give me different feelings despite their proximity to each other. The choices for the Niwaka as explained on their website

“ …inspired by wisteria flowers, evoking the image of a tiered wisteria trellis through a wavy mesh structure that covers the outer walls of the six-floor building. The flowers themselves are represented by abstract bundles of light that appear to sway gently in the wind.” - https://www.niwaka.com/en-us/flagship-store/

At the time I was not aware of the intent, or what Niwaka even did. It’s building did stand out from it’s surroundings and frankly getting this kind of reach had to have been intentional. What drew me to make this photo was how lonely it felt at the time. There were people on most other parts of the sidewalks at the time, but here this unique, focal point of a structure was just sitting there. The person in the photo being the only person to walk in front of it for the time I was on that block.

Across the street was much more lively, but not overly so. This moment is the first time I saw someone wearing a kimono out in public. With how causally they walked, not hindered or fidgeting or adjusting, it was a common outfit choice. During my trip I would see this occasionally, just enough to be reminded that it’s a thing. It also captures a lot of what I noticed as common in Japan. The bicycle, the small cars, the coffee shop, and the signs for the businesses on the different levels of the building. It also shows that, is fact Japan does have on the street parking, which I have seen too many people say does not exist.
